First, the questions you have listed are pretty much in the minds of almost all IMGs or even anyone who decided to take the journey through the USMLE steps.
I took my Step 1 exam and didn't fail, yet my scores were totally a shock compared to the amount of preparation I went through (83/202) and I went through all what your discussions are coming across here which can tell that there are quiet few doctors who go through all of these conflicts.
If you ask me about my exam experience, I would tell it's was more like a puzzle than a legitimate license exam, questions were too long, even no comparision to UW or other Q banks going around. My only question is What the Boards are trying to prove ? And I can only think of it as a supply and demand job market. Scores play an important and crucial role to plot applicants on a curve, yet there is still room for other things, other considerations that can go up and down depending on who want to give you the chance in a residency program. Life is bigger than just a stupid exam, and hopefully we can either understand or get the chance to make it work better.

Your comments were good and descriptive

chicagodoc,

thanks so much...unfortunately life is difficult for IMGs more so probably the ones in the country already for obvious reasons... I am sorry, I dont mean to offend anybody but the ones in their own country can keep trying what they have there...this is a luxury to have from our stand of point.

the exams are getting tougher for sure...we lack the control of the language as well even though we speak adequately...

I feel the pain of everybody here in the forum...we all have to be stronger for whatever our reasons are to continue this journey.....some have big goals, some have a special person-a child to continue here, some have themselves..

Yes, the "life is bigger than just a stupid exam, and hopefully we can understand or get the chance to make it work better,"...thanks chicagodoc.

I'm sorry for your result. Ck is a difficult exam, but don't get disheartened. Don't quit, a lot of people have trouble with this exam, but I strongly suggest getting right back to studying because you have recently taken the exam and the material is fresh in your mind. Otherwise if you let time slip by, you will slowly lose that knowledge.

Perhaps a tutor may help, I tutor one on one for all steps. My email is arahman84 Feel free to contact me.

All the best and hang in there

HI, I feel your pain and agony, but I just want you to understand that tough times never last, but tough people do. All you have to do is take some few weeks off and reflect on it and grieve. Think about why you went to medical school all these years to be a doctor, am sure you just don't want to be a doctor just because its in US. If you really love tobe a doctor because you care about people and its your dream, then dontlet it die, keep on fighting because you are going to make it if you really want to. Dont really take every thing you hear on this forum because the outside word is more than what you hear or read on this forum. I have friends with multiple failures who are doing residency and who have finished residency. Just remain focussed finish your exams and do your best your destiny is different from mine orthat of other people. Good luck and believe in God and believe in yourself.
