pink has summariesed process well.
i am too worried about surg prelim ps. i was only thinking obgyn or nothing at all , now seeing all those people 's experience, will be heading for surg prelim and fm.

@ pink, just checked nrmp there are 224 fm , but 461 surg prelim, only 35 TY.so is surg preli easier than fm to get?

Scramble easiest positions
1) Prelim Surgery
2) FM
3) Prelim Med and Transitional

why???? why would you take away a position someone else deserves in Surgery/Psych/Family Med... someone else who will do justice to it coz they have the passion for it.... just to use it as your stepping stone to another.....
if this is what its taking these days, the system is very flawed.. people will tend to not give their 100% in a 'stepping-stone' prelim position..... think very very carefully before getting into something your heart isnt into.....
one or two people's examples does not mean this 'plan' is written in stone (tho im sure pinky here means very well... no offence.)

Its very difficult to get what you want in USA. remember this is not your country.
US Grads take away most of the 1st choice seats.
Lets say I have a passion for Plastic Surgery. It will take me a million years to get a spot in Plastic surgery!!!
Dont give false advice and hope to everyone here.
Guys, get anything you get right now, which will count as USCE and then next year you can apply to your preferred specialty (as you will have at least 1 year of residency exp in USA)
