My experience, contacts can get you an interview. Fullstop! The moment they get to know you are IMG you are treated like plague. I would advise all to get ivs with your own credentials, that way if they are calling an IMG, they are prepared to meet one.
Yes, I know of people who failed their step & had low scores & yet matched because 1. they were citizens 2. they matched where they did their rotation - so if you are iv-ing where they know your work - would you call that contact? Well, whatever it is, it helps!
