is doing research like 2 days in a week at places like columbia, without any publications is worth to do?? any suggestions plz?? or its better to go for externship in private somewhere??

LORs from Columbia will help a lot. My friend is doing research there - the faculty is highly productive and no doubt you will get some papers. Plus, it's a big thing if you are a research scholar at such esteemed university. Forget about the residency there, fellowship is possible if you do some cutting edge basic science research at Columbia.
