Not a problem.
If you take your Clniical skills exam by December 2004 even (providing you have done your steps 1 and 2), you will be in time for the match.
I mean to say that you should have completed teps 1, 2 and Clinical skills exam by Dec 2004 for the 2005 match.
If you want an H1 visa, you will need step 3 asap. (but that can only be applied for once you are ECFMG certified)
Its better to have done your step 3 by around match time, Some people even take it as late as February or March. just that you should have passed step 3 by the time your Program processes your visa. You cant apply for an H1 without haveing passed step 3.
I dont have much of an Idea about Houston, but you must call/email programs and find out. WHen i was looking, I found that most Peds programs down south wanted US clinical experience, but that may change from year to year.
I applied to U-South Alabama, and got interviews, but I beolieve Texas tech etc were a little out of my reach. I forgot what the reason was, i think its cos i didnt have US clinical exp. Why do you want to go down south? do you have family there?
You must start emailing programs and asking what their requirements are etc.....this is the time.

yes i am a pnjabi. I am in patiala right now. Thats where i graduated from. I am currently waiting for my papers for J1 visa. I start my Peds residency this summer (if i get the visa!)
You have a great step 1 score! congrats! you will do great on step2- even better. Its always better the second time around!
I think you should read Kaplan notes for step 2. Also, adam Brochert's book called Crush step 2 worked wonders for me.

I think that you should really practise hard for CSA. Many people take it very lightly, and lots of people i Know who got high 90s in steps failed CSA last year. They are making it stricter. Just practise alot. If yopu can afford the Kaplan CSA prep, do it, otherwise go for the history taking- data gathering 2 day course and practise exam. You can also go to usmleworld.com and download the printable amterials for a nominal fee - $35 or $40 i think it is. Thiose notes are basically Kapaln re written. same thing just not that good grammar!!
You wil do fine, dont worry :o)
