Hi sungdil....
pls do ask around 1st abt what CNA's do before going into that path. I am having the same prob as you. 2003 grad mid 80's score applied to 88 prog and got 23 rej so far. I've been working as a therapist for 2.5 yrs and got 2 LOR's from US physician. My plan is to take step3 in april and contact hospitals for observership or work as a therapist there if i don't get matched this year. I think the best way to improve CV is to actually work in a setting that allows you to have more exposure to patient care and management. CNA could provide patient care but not the exposure to management. Ur USCE of observership and externship might even be better. This is just my point of view though Smile

CNA courses can last as short 5 weeks. Its a good way to get basic American healthcare experience. I used it as part of my USCE.

@ sungdil,

People with similar scores as you got interviews but with grad year 2005-2006.
It could be because 2000 is a little far off. I can think of 3 things why u r not getting any interviews:

1. Did you mention in you CV what you were doing since graduation?

2. Your LORs need to be really good ( not just "good" but "very good") and very specific to the speciality, whether its FM/Patho/Ped/Psych ( IM will be almost impossible without contacts helping you). Mere observership or externship without shining letters coming out of them is not useful if you have low scores.

3. Pass step 3 at one shot with the highest score you can get, while still maintaining clinical experience.

Mine was Pima Medical Institute, 5 week course however the test for cert. was another 6 weeks out. But I was able to work during the period between the course ending and taking the certification test.
