I would like to take this opportunity to invite you for a personal interview for an R1 position for the 2010-2011 academic year. does it mean a one year program? I applied for categorical IM.

Big congratulation!
I don't think it meant only for one year. It said that only for PG 1 Yr position. ( I think they don't want to messed up with other applicant like R2 or R3)

LOL Dont worry its for the 3 year categorical position. Probably the reason why they mentioned R-1 is because sometimes people apply for PGY-2 positions also eg. transferring from other prog etc. I got the same mail --- absolutely no worries . :-)
