Hello everyone,
Some people still remember me in this forum as I was posting time ago. I have passed this step 3, my result was this wednesday. I have started to collect resources and listen to people experience on May or may be on April, yet my study was very irregular and then I stopped it for awhile and again back to study on the second half of july, on August I was able to focus 100% on my exam. My exam was on November 2nd and third.
I used to study with groups, God bless them all, and I was surprised who wonderful people are around and all are focused on this exam.
My resources were: at the begining I used ck books just to remember the whole thing as it was a while since I did ck exam, MTB was with me from the begining and I kept adding notes from here and there on it plus I made note books also for my own notes. I used to go to some extra articles on e-medicine just to clerify some obscured information. Premium review lectures and audio was a good company through this journey. For some topics I read Jason , family medicine book, yet I couldn't read everything. My weak point was infectious diseases and I hit this weak point with everything I can put my hand on, so I read red slides, pr, mtb, and when possible any article on e-medicine. Sure discussion with my groups was amazing and it helped a lot. Sure everyone has a study style , yet it was very useful tool for me to speak out my exam anxiety and discuss weak point! for the resource of mcqs I did kaplan q bank on line once, and then uw q bank may be 2 or 3 times(the offline file) and whenever I had time I joined a group and discuss things ( thank you for everyone who made my success something possible)

So, my suggestion to you guys who are still walking this journey of usmle, be exam focused, try to let ur anxiety away, and start with your weak subject and read everything and understand everything about it. Take ur time in preparation , sure in case u have the time, step 3 is not another version of step 2 ck exam it needs some clinical experience and if you do not have this experience then you have to compensate by reading some practicle resources and here any handbook of family medicine would be good.

No one like yourself will be able to evaluate how good your preparation is, so know yourself and trust it here. If you want to go for self assessment that is fine, personally I don't believe in it so I didn't do it.

In the real exam time managment is a big issue. So, try to practice in an exam environment.
This happened to me personally, and then anxiety was there.

For the ccs part of the exam, uw ccs course on line is more than enough and always try to keep your imagination very wide in this section of the exam. When you read imagin any subject as a ccs and imagin how will you manage it! I think this routine will make you ready for any ccs that might come in the real exam. Clock forward is a big issue and it might ruin ur case or get you to the safe shore.

My ccs were: asthma, itp, eclampsia, elder abuse, panic attack???, shingles, diabetic pat and MI, toxic shock syndrome, and breast mass and pregnancy.

All the best for everyone. I'm done with this usmle journey and everyone will be done with it
in its time! do not be disencouraged with life circumstances and give urself all the space to
study and digest the medical information.

BYE BYE USMLE!!!

john2007,
Thanks. The MTB is master the board by Conard Fischer. And yes, I'm totally with you, there many mistakes but these mistakes you can discover them so easily , assuming that we are all doctors and we know these subjects not reading them for the first time. Like the mix up of the renal tubular acidosis subjects( just as we know that type I ius the distal RTA and the proximal one is type II) this is just one example and there are other mistakes.
Everyone has a style when to study and I just mentioned what I have studied. At the beginning when I saw these mistakes I felt bad and that I have wasted my money for just a book with mistakes, however when I went through it more than once I started to like it and I started to add whatever notes from here and there and at last few weeks of revision I used MTB plus my own notes!!! uw qbank I kep going back to it and also I found few mix ups in it which are neglegable!
Nothing or no resource is a MUST but it is your style and your offered time which will lead you to the good resources that YOU will study.
You can go for first aid, or what so ever, as there are so many resources in the market, and I'm telling you all contain the right material and all of them are incomplete. No single resource will give you everything about all fields on medicine!
All the best in your preparation.
Last suggestion to you, do not make the preparation time so long 'cuz you will fee bored and burn out whenever you feel it is the time just go for it. Do not postpone it just because you haven't studied this resource or that.
At the last week of my revision I knew that kaplan q book was a good resource and the explanations were awesome, but I didn't bother myself a lot I did just 1 block and that is it I forgot all about this book.
Again all the best.
