CCS 5 minute screen help please - jillian
#1
Could someone please clarify what one is supposed to do when the patient is in the hospital and not ready to leave (whether in ER/Ward/ICU)?

Do we act as though the pt "is" ready to leave and change all meds to po and d/c iv/npo/bedrest etc. and counsel 'now'. Or do we keep things as they are and order any follow-up testing and counsel 'later'.

Also, I know we can't change location at this point, but is it possible to schedule a follow-up appt? (I haven't been able to figure out a way to do this) or should we just order a follow-up test (if there is one to order).

Every time this screen pops up I feel completely lost, and neither UW nor the practice CD outlines 'the rules'.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks Jillian,

I too have the same doubt,.. For example once we do an appendicectomy and patient is in immediate postop state,

then when the screen appears, I am not sure whether to cancel iv fluids and type orders as though pt has been in hospital postop observation for a day or two or just leave those postop orders with IV fluids, q4 vitals monitor and also confused whether to add

seatbelt counseling, smoking and alcohol and safe sex then and there when the pt is still in hospital,.. because it sounds weird to counsel postop for seat belt,..

so if anyone could clarify this it would be of great help
