Step 3 eligibility question - fodorar
#1
Hi all! I'm looking for some information on Step 3 eligibility. I am an IMG (but US citizen) that graduated in September 2016. I took all the steps (except Step 3) and passed with above average results, all first attempt. I am currently working abroad as a general practitioner and have not applied for residency or done any postgraduate training in the US. I know there is a 7 year limit to take all the steps (took Step 1 in 2015). To be honest, I am unsure if I want to apply for residency back home as initially planned. However I want to keep my options open and take Step 3 since I am a US citizen and already come this far. I know I don't have to be in a residency program in order to take Step 3, but what happens if (God forbid) I fail on first attempt? Can I retake it several times before my deadline even if I'm not in a US residency program? Looking for input!
Thanks in advance!

You can take the test once per eligibility period...if that's the question you are asking.
