It is possible but tough.. By MRCS, I presume you mean England or Edinburgh?

If you want to go to the US, apply early for the next cycle (eg. Aug/Sept).

But do consider one thing.. The fact that you have MRCS means that you are close to becoming an SpR (in UK). If you go to the States, you start from the bottom, working really long hours (that put our European hours to shame!)

And, even when you finish the 5 year residency, you are not there really. You have to do further training to be skilled and/or specialised enough.

The US training is terrific by all accounts, but a chief surgical resident is not normally as good as a senior SpR..

But if you are like me and just rather disillusioned with things on this side of the Atlantic, then go for it! I'm doing the same!
