i was listening to kaplan behav lectures on substance abuse and that dr said that fetal alcohol syndrome is the most common cause of mental retardation and second common cause of mental retardation is down syndrome!
i havent listened to genetic lectures yet so i dont know what that lecturer would say abt which one is the no # 1 cause of mental retardation.... fragile x or down syndr!?

I think first Aid gives its clear..and so does BRS Path. Downs - No. 1 and Fragile X - No. 2. They say th eincidence of MR in children in increasing due to the increase in alcohol abuse by pregnant mothers. But it still hasnt topple Downs.
