35 yr old woman--palpated lumpp in right breast--no other complaints--hasnt seen a doc for 10 yrs--regularly prforms breast self examination --medical hist unremarkable--mother died of breast cancer at age 40---on inspection---normal---1*1cm rubbery firm freely mobile round mass palpated in upper outer quadrant--no lymph nodes palpated

i was wrong, answer is mammo-=--- and i had done this q before!! i hope i get this in the exam.

mammo done to rule out other lesions... fnac is next.

well I think if it is a palpable mass why do mammo, lets do US first to see if it is a cyst or solid mass, does frim confrim its solid? and then go on to FNAC if sono confrim a solid mass?

what would be the only reason in this case to pick mammo over FNC even though no lymph nodes are palpable.

no, the reason is that this mass could either be benign or malignant. Mammo will give us picture of whole breast as well as contralateral breast whether there are any other loci that we might be missing on clinical examination like microcalcifications, which willnedd to be biopsied. This is more so important in view of the fact that her mother had ca breast at 40.
