definetely kaplan is wrong ,if both pt and parter have monogamous relation ocps do not increase or decrease the risk of std but in case of multiple sexual parters even with one person condoms definetey decrease the incidence of stds when compared to ocps which offer absolutely no protection.

have i cleared ur doubt.

in this case ans is stop smoking as it increases the risk of dvt etc.

Hey coping,
OCP does not protect against STD/HIV.
check out this link

B is the right ans for the above q.

C would have been the choice if the pt was >35

magnificent link or pfd for the dub
but the q above..is from kaplan q bank and i know that its answe is D.
I WAS LLOKING THROUGH THESE SITES COUD NOT FIND SOOMTHING THAT 100%ANSWER MY Q.
1.OCPS DECREASE THE INCENDENCE OF GC INFECTION AND ALSO IT DECRESES THE NCODENCE OF CHLAMYDIA SALPENGITIS.
2.THEY INCREASE THE CHLAMYDIA CERVISTIS AND ENDOMETRITIS
3.IN GENERAL THEY TEND TO DECREASE THE RISK OF PID.THATS WHAT IAM SURE OF KAPLAN..
SOMWHER AMONG MY NOTES..UW.SAID IT INCREASE THIS CONFLECT STILL THERE..I COULD NOT FIND SOMTHING SPEAK AGAINST THAT IT DECREAS THE STD...
IT DOES NOT PROTECT FROM STDS ...YES.
BUT IT CHANGES THE MUCOSA AND THE ATTACHMENT OF THE BACTERIA TO THE MUCOSA..DECREASING THAT INCENCE.
SO STILL THE Q THERE
ON ANYHOW..ALWYS YOU SHOULD GIVE BOTH OF THEM CONDUM AND OCPS SO THAT YOU PROTECT AGINST ALL PIDS.

1-The ans according to Kaplan is D).....as coping mentioned there is apparently a change in the mucose with OCP which in turn decreases the risk for GC and PID.
2-Quit smoking on the other hand, applies to >35 yr old (relative contraindication)
3-OCP is associated with increased risk for Chlamydia
4- Moral of the story........use both OCP and Condoms for max. protection! :-)
Oh, also fuse both for female wanting to start treatment with Isotrenitoin!

Kaplan never seems to update anything in their notes.
