there is nothing to get screwed. The max. that will happen is the cards won't be read.

I agree with you a bit. With 400-500 individuals at some IM program, certainly its impossible for faculty to read all the greetings cards if they are individually send.

However, its very important to thank the PD.. doesnt have to be a letter even an email is ok.

sending a card is just courtesy, wether a not the pd replies. Do you expect anything in return when you say thank you on the street?

I think sending a card shows them that you are still interested with their programs, nothing wrong with that and the will put it in your file. Befor ethey decide when they look at you file, here is a nice card!
