Just got results -

Michael

Hi everyone, I posted my initial message in July- titled 'Desperate Last Week'.

I have just got my results today, and scored the absolute minimum possible- 75/182! I know that this is not very good, but I do not intend to apply for anything competitive anyway. Any chances of a residency in something like Internal Medicine? I heard somewhere that IMGs have to score very well to even think of getting a residency.

Not a chance of any residency Michael. Problem is you can't redo Step 1 to get a better score. Still, not coming to the USA is not the end of the world- there's plenty of other countries you can go to. Don't mean to sound brutal but just realistic.

Michael dont worry scores is not everythign when applying for residency. They take into consideration your personality, your interpersonal skills and your commmunications skills as well. Just try to study harder for step 2. I know a few ppl who got a IM residency with just barely passing both steps. Dont let anyone discourage you. I dont agree at all with the above post by Rajeev. Good Luck to you.

Hospitals do not screen people based on scores soley. There are other criteria used. Try to get some us experience or observership. Don't worry ppl do get residencies with low scores.

everybody that passes gets a residency, maybe not in the best hospital or best area. I know so many with low scores who got in, for example a step 1 75 got into surgery, haha
So,everything is possible. Pass step2 and u will be fine

Hi, do not let anyone say that you can´t, work harder on your step 2 score and that is it. There are a lot of factors that influence your entrance to a residency program.
Good luck!!

Hi there Sandy, although I didn't get a great mark- memorising First Aid and doing roughly about half of the Qbank questions got me through. If you do more than this, you are bound to do even better. Good luck!

Dear Michael..aka SD? I am happy to see you using the 'hi there' approach. Any luck? That guy Rajeev sounds as though hes got his head stuck up his arse. You'll be fine , just concentrate on step 2. I am sure when you apply for a residency they look more at your personality and how you can communicate with other people. After all these are the most important skills you require to be a good Doctor, not just bloody exam marks!!
