A 27-year-old man and his 7-year-old son develop diarrhea 3 days after visiting a county fair. Within 24 hours, both have bloody diarrhea. Neither has fever, but the father has cramps. Rather than trying to come to your office, the father asks if his wife can pick up a prescription.

Which of the following is the most appropriate therapy for both the father and the son?

( A ) Trimethoprim“sulfamethoxazole
( B ) Ciprofloxacin
( C ) Loperamide
( D ) Fluids; no medications are needed

Fluids; no medications only when the patient experience loose stool . but in severe symptome like bloody diarrhea and cramps eventually fever so go with ciprofloxacin.

I think A is appropriate. Quinolones are not advised for kids less than 18 years old

A is the DOC for infectious diarrhea.
