physio Q - amin92
#1
2 patients- pt. A has CO poisoning & CO binds 50% of the available O2 binding sites on Hb .
& pt. B has iron def anemia & pt. has 50% of the normal amount of Hb
Why pt A has higher risk of tissue hypoxia?

1 CO causes arterial hypoxemia while anemia does not

2 CO causes decrease in diffusing capacity

3 decrease in P50 of Hb for O2

4 greater decrease in concentration of arterial oxygen

5 reduced rate of O2 binding to available Hb

yep
it shipts curve to left so p50 reduces n oxygen delivery to tissues suffers

but , also because of noncomp binding it may reduce the binding of other o2 so, total o2 capacity is reduced
