Menieres vs Viral Labyrinthiasis - naperthrill
#1
according to kaplan, both have tinnitus, hearing loss, and vertigo. So how to differentiate the two.

Does Menieres occur more than once, while Viral Labyrinthaisis is only a single episode?

I know Menieres has waxing and waning symptoms and is due to head trauma or syphilis while Laby is usually sudden in onset and after a URI. but still, i am finding it hard to differentiate in the questions from NBME. Help Please

I think you put it right. Meniers is recurrent ,at least they would give that hx to make the distinction in the exams.

Laby is the INFLAMATION of the inner ear, it presents with prolong episodes first time it presents and then following attacks get shorter and shorter until it is completely resolved.

Menier is not a self limited disease. Also remember USMLE asks about the MOST COMMON diseases amd Menier is by far much more common than Laby. So when in doubt ALWAYS pick the most common diease (in US). Good luck
