This is what my experience says to get an interview in general surg
1. scores above 90
2. recent graduate, preferably within 2 years
3. usce
4. LOR
5. Knowing the PD here through someone very resourceful.
6. publications or abstracts.
Visa are not much of issue in gen surg, programs need many gen surgeons and they go to any extent to sponsor a visa.
would agree with it except for #5
though knowing a pd can be very helpful, it may not be neccessary to all

medic is this the one in milwaukee or the one in madison
i didnt apply to the one in madison but did to the one in milwaukee
but medic wisconsin has been a state where IMGs have been in less numbers
