Hi beti:

I am in the same boat-trying to get and observership or externship somewhere. Just try calling local hospitals around your area or local programs if you are located in a bigger city were there might be university programs, etc. and ask them directly about it-that is what i am doing-so far no results because i am quite far from bigger cities and i can't really relocate right now-but just give a try.

Try going in person rather than calling, you can also be a volunteer in a hospital if you have time and try and make contacts from within. Its difficult making conatacts over the phone.
