a pt is given a drug that increases inotrophic state in the heart. Which of the following is not expected?
a) increase of pressure development
b) increase in peak ventricular pressure
c) increase rate of relaxation
d) decreased rate of relaxation
e) decreased systolic interval

Please post your answer with an explanation

1/3 of the cardiac cycle it's systole
2/3 of the cardica cycle it's dyastole
so, if the the drug increase the HR, the dyastole (relaxation will decrease)

however with Inotropic drugs , the systol get's shorter and dyastolic period gets larger?

I am 80% sure of my answer? someone correct me If I am wrong please!

D

The overall changes induced by increased contractility:
increased rate of pressure development.
increased peak left ventricular pressure
increased rate of relaxation
decreased systolic interval.

why is there an increased rate of relaxation? can someone explain this?

kaplan says it`s due to the increased rate of calcium sequestration

When it was explained in class the professor said that the muscle contracts faster and relaxes faster.
Think about the heart muscle contracting and relaxing weakly and then after the digoxin it has a new burst of energy and starts contracting more, but with each contraction there is a relaxation period.
this was a difficult concept for me too, but just visualize your hand as the heart and start closing it weakly and slowly and then open and close faster. This will probably help you understand better.
