please can someone describe how to manage elderly abuse, I will appreciate it.

depends upon how the case is presented...
i have at least one or maybe 2 elder abuse ccs taken from the forum...
other ppl's work not mine.....

this was posted by clutzz2000 on mt request...he/she scored in the 90's..
this was clutzz's actual case.... in real exam...

elderly abuse was a demented lady at a resi home...admitted because looking unwelll.....she screams whenever a male attendant approaches her over the last few weeks and appears frightened.....do a complete examination and u will find some genital abnormality.....

with this in mind u should suspect elder abuse
admit the patient
doall the rouitine blood tests
pap smear....hiv test...hep......swabs....gm stain.....

in mine she was positive for trichomonas which is transmitted by semen....so treat her with metro

informspocial serivces

contact family

involve clinical psycologist/psychiatrist for counselling.....

now if pt is all bruised up... skeletal survey
do PT, PTT & INR
Of course basic CBC, CMP, CXR, EKG, UA, URINE Cx...
head injury/confused....Head CT...
bruising on belly think blunt trauma to pancreas...get LFTs, amylase & lipase...
NH pt....suspecting malnutriion.... albumin...

got it from the forum....forgot the name of the person who posted it...
not my work...

ELDERLY ABUSE:

complete examination...
skin/HEENT/CVS/RS/abdo/rectal/genital/neuro/neuropschy

treat for wounds burns
order
CPK
CBC with differential
BMP
LFT
Amylas/lipase
TSH
UA
pevic examintion with koh wet mout chlamy dna or gram stain forgonnococal..if sexual abuse
CT Abdomen if organ damage suspected
X ray if fracture
skeletal survey/bone scan

Admit
inform the social service
consult the psychiatris
treat for fracture by
Coagulation studies.............bruising

need to check certain drugs if suspecting overdose of pt's daily drugs....
also drug levels to see if he is getting the durgs he needs....to r/o with holding of drugs he needs.
