while treating DKA:

1. at what rate the blood sugar shoul be decreased per hour?
2. once BS reaches 250mg/dl why do we change NS to D51/2NS?
3. what symptoms do you see if blood sugar is dropped fast?
4. how would you treat the sxs of decreasing BS rapidly?

anyone.......

may be 50 to 60mg/hr
we change cause we want to avoid cerebral edema and hypoglycemia, hypokalemia
.......................
first 4 hrs give 0.9% NS, next until bld glucose is 250 or less give 0.45% NS, then give 5%dns
