first ask the patient to do active ROM, if the ROM when the patient complains of pain during passive ROM ...thats the point to STOP... do no further,

do not forget to explore the NOT PAINFUL one first to do a comparative analysiss of the join
Make the pt move the joint in a mirror sequence: Yo tell the patient to mimic whhat u are doping and to tell u if he has pain....then you do flexion, extension, suppination, pronation, abducion, aduction.
Then you ask permision to move pasively and explain that u are going to do nice and soft
Complete with sensory, relfexes, pulses
If arm or leg is painful YOU HAVE TO touch Neri and Vallix points in spine

Vertebral painful point
1. Pressure spinous ap.
2. pressure the interspinous spaces
3. pressure over transverse ap.
You touch with your tumb making light pressure over the medial aspect of the spina and go sliding down, the you do the same maneuver laterally

In case of arm involvment do it in cervical region
In case of leg involvemtn do it in lumbo-sacral region
