Be very careful of FMG-affordable. Barry Mehta the director and husband of Dr. Charu Mehta has at least one conviction in the state of Maryland for Medicaid Fraud. They started a nursing home using Dr. Mehta's license and Barry ran it. He then defrauded the state of millions. He was convicted and "BARRED PERMANENTLY" from being in the nursing home business in Maryland. (See the Attorney General's press release link below).

They then started another SCAM (FMG-affordable) to get "easy money" from FMG's.
DO NOT trust these people because they are Indians and you are too. They are greedy, dishonest and unscrupulous. The only thing they care about is getting your money into their pockets.

If you really are interested in stopping the Mehtas and FMG-affordable, then you should complain to the US Gov't (US POST OFFICE) about MAIL FRAUD because ALL TRANSACTIONS USING REGULAR/SURFACE MAIL, eMAILS and COURIOR SERVICES and ORIGINATING or ENDING IN THE US are under the jurisdiction of the POST OFFICE.

START THERE, YOU'LL GET FASTER RESULTS.

COLUMBIA STOCK BROKER PLEADS GUILTY
TO STEALING $125,000 FROM MEDICAID

Attorney General J. Joseph Curran, Jr., announced today that a Columbia stock broker has pled guilty to one count of felony Medicaid fraud for stealing $125,000 from the Maryland Medical Assistance program (Medicaid). Barry Mehta, of the 5500 block of Oakland Mills Road, entered a guilty plea before the Honorable Robert N. Dugan in Baltimore County Circuit Court for his actions while operating Family Home Center (FHC), an adult day care center located at 5550 Baltimore National Pike. FHC provided medical care and rehabilitative services to eligible Medicaid recipients from 1993 until 2000. Mehta will be sentenced on January 8, 2003.

Mehta owned and operated Family Home Center from 1993 to 2000. During the seven year period that his facility was open, Mehta systematically billed the State for clients who were not actually present. The employees of FHC were required by Mehta to take client attendance on a daily basis. As part of that process, they recorded the status of each client. Mehta instructed employees on a daily basis to add an average of two names to the list of present clients. Mehta then used the attendance sheets to complete the invoices that were sent to Medicaid for payment.

One example of the fraudulent billing scheme involved a patient Suniti C., an elderly woman who was enrolled by Mehta after she began living in his house and working as her housekeeper. Suniti was occasionally absent and never attended FHC on weekends. However, Mehta instructed the witness to mark Suniti as present every day that the center was open, regardless of Suniti's presence. Medicaid billing records for Suniti reveal that FHC was paid on 101 occasions for Saturdays, and 10 more on Sundays, resulting in fraudulent proceeds to Mehta in the amount of $6,444.28.

FHC billed the Medicaid program for adult day care services provided to enrolled Medicaid recipients. In return for services provided in accordance with the relevant regulations, Medicaid would pay FHC per patient per day. That rate increased over time, but, during the time covered by the Indictment, from October 1993 to May 2000, the average amount paid per patient per day to FHC was $57.01. Medicaid regulations require that a provider bill only for services that are actually provided to eligible recipients. The amount of fraudulent billings submitted by Mehta totaled $125,000.

CPM Corporation, a company controlled by Mehta and associated with his day care center, also entered a plea of guilty to felony Medicaid fraud, and was sentenced by the court to pay a penalty of $250,000.

NOW YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

My advice, don't pay anyone for an externship.
If you want to be in a private setting, you don't have to pay for that privilege, believe me. There are plenty of doctors that will be HAPPY to have you WORK in their office for FREE for three months.
They will do it because, it won't cost them anything and it will cut down on their workload.

If you want a hospital setting, go to FREIDA Online Search, get email addresses / phone numbers of programs and start emailing / phoning.

Just get the phone book and start calling.

Good Luck

Dear dsamal,

It is important people know about them. Now is the peak season - match period. It is during and after this period that they make scapegoats of poor IMGs. also, a fresh update about fmg affordable, they ae no longer able to provide any rotation at howard county hospital..as the management of that hospital is fed up with them for illegally bringing in fmg's to that hospital to shadow physicians. So beware of their false publicity.

one of my friends had done externships with them. paid them five thousand dollars for two postings of three weeks.....they set u up with a private practitioner..not worth it....quiet a few of them who did with them haven't got any interviews.

Others who got it had observerships elsewhere....Also the accomodation they provide is very very filthy...it is in the basement.....the kitchen, bathroom and all is very messy...the flush in the bathrooms don't work properly...they dont switch on the ac in winter or summer...this is particularly concerning since the accomodation is in the basement....
In addition, the make the externs do all the cleaning like floors, bathroom, watering the garden etc
no transportation available from their house to the offices of private practioners.....this guy barry agrees to drop them every day (a distance of less than a mile) and charges 10-15 dollars for it. So transportation costs 400-500 etc
Also one of the externs did not receive any LOR last year from them. Barry did not pay the private practioners well so they dont give lors....ultimately he benefits but the poor student loses out....out of the 2500 for each three week rotation he pays abut 250 to the physician..so most of the teaching hospital affiliated ones are no longer taking students...

He will give false assurances about hospital postings but finally put u up with private practioners that too of not ur choice...he just chooses the one whom he has to pay the least...

Previously he used to post at maryland general ER....that was the only good one..but now they have stopped it completely.....now he does post at shock trauma center at univ of maryland but the LOR u get is good for nothing...as it is a surgical posting...also the lors are mailed very late to eras by the attending...she doesn't charge any money from barry and therefore is slack in mailing the lors....

He has plenty of testimonials in his website. Most of them have been obtained by pressurizing the applicants. They have their LORS withheld until they give a testimonial. Also, he keeps on pestering then day in and day out, barges into their room at night while they are sleeping for these testimonials....for some he gives them financial discount to speak well abut his service....but my friend is very close to me and told me the truth abut him....

All the leftover rotten food and vegetables are given to the applicants as if he is doing a big favor for them...the utensils are good for nothing and may be 10-15 yrs old......

OPT FOR HIS SERVICE AS THE LAST RESORT!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY IF U HAVE NO OTHER OPTION.

ANY MORE QUESTIONS PLEASE WELCOME!!!!!

Dear friends

These guys claim that u can do part of your internship with their program. But let me assure you that this would not fulfill the internship requirements of your medical school. They set u up with private practitioners who don't have any academic affiliations and you are working in their offices.. Students from some medical schools like Manipal, Agha khan can do electives here in US. they do proper clerkships in us medical schools were they are a part of the ward team and work under the attendings. Both the medical school as well as the US medical school accept this as a proper clinical rotation were the students actually participates in medical care and can put this done as a clinical elective done in US in his CAF. But this is not applicable for the USCE u gain under Barry;s FMG affordable. TheSe guys are just trying to fleece poor gullible students to gain profit. Fooling students into believing this as a proper elective is criminal. So students still in medical school and those planning to go to them for a elective during ur medical school intership BEWARE!!!!! this rotation may not be accepted by ur medical school AS WELL AS BY SCHOOLS HERE IN US AS IT WASN"T DONE IN A ACGME ACCREDITED PLACE. So this may jeopardize ur application.

Your friend,
Tia.

P.S.I AM NOT TRYING TO MISGUIDE ANYONE. YOU CAN CONFIRM THIS YOURSELF. if what I am saying is wrong then I will definitely apologize.

A lot has been said of this service, so i thought I will add my opinion of it. Most of these paid externship programs only provide rotations at private clinics. Letters from these sources are not as useful as the ones from teaching faculties. But for some one who has no other option this may not be a terrible option especially if trying for FP as office based letters should be ok for those. Again u should go for these services with a realistic expectations. This is applicable to all services affordable, fmgamerica, americlerkships etc.

As far as barry mehta is concerned, I know someone who took his service and is doing residency right now. My friend says this service helped a lot; but again this was couple of years back and then my friend had the option of rotating at maryland general ER and got the letter from the director of ER services testifying that she had hands-on experience. This mattered a lot and she got into a good program. Also, the accomodation is in a safe area. This service did help her immensely.

Disadvantages: But now from what I understand, things have changed a lot. The ER rotation is no longer available. Also, previously students could rotate with physicians at Maryland general, St agnes, Howard county hospital. Now this is no longer possible. Also, my contact from St agnes has told me that the PD Dr. Dy has banned Dr. Mehta from bring externs to the hospital.Same with MGH. Mehta will also keep bugging u for a testimonial. Dr. Mehta is kind of ok, but barry is obsessed with making money. He is the main problem with the service. ALSO HIS PAST REPUTATION IS NOT VERY GOOD. This year couple of externs did not get any letters inspite of paying thousands of bucks. interstingly, the people in the testimonials never reply to the emails. Whats the purpose of these testimonials. I hope these people are real. So the extern has to decide keeping in mind the advantages and disadvantages.
