A man is a known heterogyous carrier of a mutation that causes hemochromatosis. Suppose that 1% of the general population consists of homozygous mutation. If the man mates with somebodyfrom the general population what is the probability that there would be an affected child born to them?

the recessive gene frequency in general population is sqrt (1/100) = 1/10,
so the probability is 1/2 (because he is a carrier) * 1/10 = 1/20

your ans is correct.
but dont u have to consider any possibility of the mate being homozygous?

it will be a lot easier to do the math with gene frequency rather than thinking two genotype frequencies separately, the results are the same though.

the probability of homozygous is 1/100 and that of heterozygous is 18/100
so 1/2 *1/100 + 1/4 *18/100 = 1/20
