I intend to apply to California medical board for the application status letter and also for Step 3. Is the status letter required for step 3 and do I need to pay separate fees for these two applications. I really do not know how to go about it. Does anybody have some experience or information about this?? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Not really sure if you need to have CA letter to apply for step 3. I also like to know the answer to this question. But I just got my CA letter last week and I think paid around $500 for this process. I would think that you need to pay two different fees, but I have not researched this in great detail myself yet.

Anybody else have any idea about this?? Maybe it would be better to just go ahead and apply to a different state and hopeful later to CA, funds allowing.

You apply two different things.
Dear MM, when diyou apply for CA letter?
My wife applied September 30 and is waiting result.

To Dreamin,
I applied over 6 months ago!. The porblems was they wanted letter and documents from my home university and I knew this would take long! Once all that was in place they just wanted my USMLE result for step1 & 2. Once I released that to them (need to pay $50) I got my letter a week later.
