hello friends.
I plan to give my step 1 in about 4 months now and I see that
I am getting increasingly slow as far as my study pace is concerned.I feel Step 1 tests our knowledge pretty much in the details and so I started studying in a way that meets this requirement. but when I get stuck up at a point ,i dont proceed unless I dont find an answer to it,no matter if it takes me 2 hrs on that particular concept. And Believe me ! if I dont repeat and reinforce that in my memory THAT would be the concept that i would forget first,I mean...after pondering over it so much, and making the concept clear ,....can you imagine!!!?, how disgusting it is that I forget it.I could have mastered and remembered 10 other concepts that I already know in the same time.
I just dont know what to do with myself.Am I getting forgetful,?Does this happen with any of you.I have a very disgusting habit of not being able to move further during studying if I get stuck up with something i dont understand,.....I have to figure out for myself and cant proceed unless it makes sense.
Some body please advice. Is there a mental exercise that can get me out of this coz this simply cannot be a statergy to prepare for step 1.I dont want to loose time.
please some body help me.How do you guys deal with concepts that you dont understand.any advice?!!!!!!!!

When stuck on a concept try a different source to see if it would be clearer. Some authors are better in explaining certain concepts. Also you may just decide to move to the next topic because most often you will find the same concept stated and explained differently under another topic further than in the same book.

Also don't forget tha certain concepts may require additional input ffrom another subject for full understanding. For instance when reading mechanism of action of some anti microbials under pharmacology it may require prior knowledge of some molecular biology concepts to fully comprehend the drug action without resorting to "cramming". Keep this in mind. Hope this helps.

Girl!...you remind me...and yes I do the same thing when im in that situation...
What i do and it is helping me is that i go to the questions...sometimes the answer is better explain in that part of the book...so i go back and review with the concept until i understand it.
and yes there are some authors that explain concepts in a better way, so you can look for your answer in another book.
What i also do is asked somebody who already passed the exam and have a better understanding of it, which is usually my husband.
Well good luck and remember dont panic

what are u reading for the test? see if ur exam is about 4 months away, read the easier subjects now, and for god sake it is true with everyone, and don't think once u understand u won't forget, its only the tension thats disturbs you.. never mind go through other topics and u will know it later ur answers are partly cleared when u read another topic!!
