Many people with scores in low 80's got interviews through contacts. I think if you want to match this year you need good scores or good contacts.
Many people with scores in 90's don't have any IV's but people with low scores already got 3-4 interviews. This is really awesome

contact definetly work..provided the contacts really want to help you.... not just get you an interview.... but also make recommendation during match time.. if helpful for an interview, it is of no use.. coz, PD already know that you are a recommended one.
