UK people are sooo annoying :( - drshankarpatel
#41
Having followed this tread for the last couple of days I have to say that I have been disappointed and offended by the contents.

I am a British Doctor & just like ever IMG, I hope my residency application will be judged on its merits, and I will not fall victim to prejudice or injustice based on my nationality, sex or age. It is sad that some people on this thread expect to be treated in that way, and at the same time think that it is acceptable to exercise prejudice, prejudgment and racism towards others. ....Some of the remarks written have been purposely offensive and personally I feel they were unnecessary.

This forum is supposed to be a source of support and information for all us people united in the journey towards securing a residency. ....It is a shame it is being used as a medium to communicate negativity and hostility.

We live in a democracy, and we are entitled to career choices without having to justify them (Dr patel), or be stereotyped (toniblair). For the benefit of your own personal developments, and that of your patients.....I think some of you guys would benefit from exercising a little more diplomacy, and by treating other people in the way that you yourself would like to be treated.

I know many people in the US, who changed jobs, specialities, states etc even being very succesful on the surface.

I know a program director who did anesthesilogy residency after practising as attending in pediatrics, and also a neurosurgeon who did two residencies.

Doctors are also human being and need to be treated like that.

USA is a better country than India, UK etc in 8 out of 10 doctors as it supposedly does not discriminate on basis of age, sex, race etc but may be on the basis of nationality.

There is nothinh called US IMG, non US IMG but only IMG.

All IMGs, who come from different countries, have different resume. Please do not judge their credentials on the Indian yardstick. Indian IMGs complete MBBS at an averege of 22 years of age and have no broad view of the world and multiracial issues.

They grow up in selfish culture, where millions compete for one slot and sole aim for many is money. They can not think about any other motive for jobs.

This is a case with Dr Patel.

I honestly think ur SIGNIFICANTLY over exaggerating the impact of Uk grad/UK experienced doctors on the match process.

I think the peak was last year, and most likely for this and subsequent years the UK contribution will be diminished.

Firstly, Indian colleagues r largely avoiding the UK (rightly so) and going directly for the States, rather than waste money on PLAB etc.

Secondly, many UK grads are pretty hesitant to move to the UK cos despite the crap in the UK they don't want the hassle of the USMLE etc. and wud prefer to go instead to Aussie/NZ.

In view of the above what ur saying is just plain nonsense and paranoia.

Think about it.

yellowfever,

So true. These UK docs knew well before coming to UK that thats how they've devloped the system o do training and then go back to ur home country.. these ppl knew this well. So there shud be no whining about them changing their minds because of some grave situation in the UK whereby these ppl now all of a sudden cannot train.. Thats why I dont believe them.

Actually my sincere impression about these docs is that they want to just mint money.. what irks me more is that these ppl actually occupied places (RMO, registrar, even consultant) in the UK that could have gone to more deserving ppl who at least would have kept their speciality. Its very irritating to see a full fledge Gynecologist or Surgeon doing Family Practice and a full fledge Internal medicine expert doing Radiology in US. They occupied a good person' place in the UK and now they are occupying another good person's place here in the US. Think of that meritous guy, who spent thousands of dollars of his poor family to get into residency here and here only, yet sitting out while one of these crocodiles occupying a spot as a resident.. Shame..

To all docs who are proclaiming to be UK trained saints,

I am not against you.. I am just voicing freedom of expression on a very valid issue. People who come to US to do residency here because they prefered US over any other country actually deserve the spot more. Thats a moral fact. So that why I appeal to any PD reading this thread to give preference to graduates who HAVE NOT DONE RESIDENCY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD SPEICALLY UK and take IMGs who have to put their step in the residency cycle.

Thanks

jackinthebox,

u occupied the seat of someone in the Uk who could've been a sincere doc.. someone who would've remained true to his field of medicine and gone back to his home country to practice his science.. instead you soullessly occupied a meritous position for many years and now you will occupy another meritous person's residency seat here in the US. You should be going back to your home country and practicing as a specialist NOT doing residency here.. OK

Minting money is no crime.. but wasting your UK training is.. PDs shud note that

I think you should stay back in india and give your seat to one of my friends who is more meritorius than you, more sincere, less fortunate, more needy ,graduated from a less popular college, who needs the money more than you. I think you should go and with your existing training not block another candidates postiton in the states and practice in rural andamans where the doctor patient ratio can be helped by your presence. And am sure you can work for half the salary without a problem. And how many time do I have to stress MRCP does not make one a specialist !!!!!
