which is better
Research or a clinical experience in home country in the meantime.

clincal exp in usa( anything obship/ externship) is best
next comes research- better if it can get u some publication= not possible in few mths
clincal exp in home country does not count at all..unless ur in MD/post grad program.

US Clinical experience will be BEST,but if that is not an option then i think clinical experience in home country will be a good choice and if you can manage to get yourself involved in some clinical research that will be an added bonus.

hi,can i ask how could we get a clinical research in US?im IMG.
i sended many e-mails to many professor,but no one answer to me.im really confused & i dont know what to do,my plan is for next year match,im passed step1 & CK,but CS is remain for me.

I personally feel that Research and USCE are very specialty depended. While USCE in any field is an added advantage, Research is not necessarily an advantage. So one needs to investigate what are the best combinations avialable (University hospital Externship >> University Hospital Observership >> University Hospital Basic Science Research >> University Hospital Clinical Research >> Private Hospital Externship / Observership) for what specialties. For Eg: Research with publications is almost mandatory in Radiology, while it is not in Internal Medicine.

Research in any country is always welcome. However, it is not really important where you did your research. But it really is important where have you published your work. Generally from my personal experience the impact factor of a specific journal generally is relied upon while determining the quality of the work. For Eg: A basic science publication in journals "Cell", "Nature" and "Science" is considered higher than a clinical research article in "AJNR" or any such clinical journal. And adding to this it also matters what type of content have you published. Usually there is an order of importance for research contributions (Book publishing with a very reputed publisher>>Book Chapters>>Basic Science Review articles>>Basic Science Research Articles>> Clinical Research Review articles>>Clinical Research articles>>Basic Science or Clinical Research/brief communication>>Research abstracts>>Poster / conference presentations).

Just to mention a disclaimer, it is just my opinion; might just be biased. However, i feel that networking with folks on a forum such as this one, can help.

now i have another Q:
one of professors that i mailed him for research or observer,told me that research is for some who have more experiance,& observer is just for students not me that im a graduate.
Now,what do u suggest me?what should i do to get my both goals:1) achieve some USCE
2)can earn money to live in US(im still in my home country)
