Dear

Thank you for your interest in our Psychiatric Residency Training Program. Information about Maricopa Integrated Health System and our Program, including applicant qualifications, can be found on our website:

http://mihs.org/mededucation/graduate/psychiatry.html

Since we only accept residency applications processed through ERAS, you must submit a completed ERAS application in order to be considered for our program. Applications for the March 2009 NRMP Match are accepted through ERAS from September 1, 2008 to December 15, 2008. On occasion we have done "pre-match" for applicants who are not graduates of American medical schools. Our Selection Committee makes the final decisions as to which applicants will be offered positions.
While there is no absolute cut off for USMLE scores or number of attempts to pass, we will give preference to applicants with scores above 80 and no more than two attempts.
Approximately half of our current residents are IMG's. However, applicants must be able to prove legal ability to work in the United States. We are not able to sponsor J1 or H1 visas. IMG™s are expected to have 6 “12 months recent US medical experience. We do not have any hard rules about years from graduation, but we will want to know that an applicant who graduated more than a year ago has been active in some medical endeavor in the intervening years and has kept current in medical knowledge. Most of our residents have graduated immediately before or within a year or two of starting the program.
MIHS also offers a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Again, thank you for your interest.

We do not sponsor visas, but our HR dept will work with ur lawyer.

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the UCLA-Kern Psychiatry Residency Program. Without reviewing your complete information we could not make a determination on your eligibility. However we would encourage you to apply as we do review each application. We have not set minimum requirements for screening applicants. However, we do prefer USMLE scores of 80 or above, recent graduation and 3 strong letters of support. Each application is reviewed to allow the candidate the opportunity to explain a lower score or time lag from medical school Any residency in California requires you apply for a PTAL (California letter) through the California Medical Board. This can be a lengthy process, up to 6 months. You may check the Medical board web site for further information. www.medbd.ca.gov If you have other questions please check our website www.kernmedicalcenter.com or feel free to contact me. I will look forward to seeing your file through ERAS.

We are in receipt of your email inquiring about application to our program. We accept applications only through ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) and participate in the NRMP (National Residency Matching Program). If you are interested in applying to our program for the 2009 match, please submit an application, C.V., Dean's letter, medical school transcript, three letters of recommendation, copy of USMLE transcripts (passing scores on Steps I and II are required with no more than two attempts), a valid ECFMG certificate, a current Postgraduate Training Authorization Letter issued from the Medical Board of California. You must either be a U.S. citizen or have permanent residency (green card or ECFMG sponsored J-1 visa---we do not sponsor visas). All of these documents must be received through ERAS before your application will be considered complete. Once a complete application is received, it is presented to our Residency Selection Committee for review. There it is evaluated to determine if the candidate will be granted an interview. While there are no minimum USMLE scores, we do consider
the number of attempts at passing when evaluating an applicant. Additionally, we do not have a cutoff for graduation year but we do consider what you have been doing since graduation from medical school. We began accepting applications September 1st through ERAS, and our deadline to receive applications is 12/01/08.

step 1 and 2 should be above 190 to be considered, only j1 through ECFMG, no usce

Dear,

Thank you for your interest in the Psychiatry Residency Training Program at the George Washington University. You can find detailed information about our program requirements for both US and International medical school graduates on our website at www.gwupsychiatry.org. All PGY-1 applicants must submit their application through ERAS at www.aamc.org/eras. Dates and deadlines can be found at the ERAS website, and also at www.nrmp.org.

From all applicants, we require three letters of recommendation as well as a Dean's letter. For those who are foreign medical school graduates, or IMGs, we require that you have a combined USMLE Step 1 score of 200 or greater. We are very strict with this cut-off score. Additionally, GWU only sponsors those with a J-1 clinical Visa for people who are not US citizens, do not have a green card, or are not permanent residents. While US experience is not required, it is preferable that IMGs have had some clinical experience within the US. There is no requirement for the year of graduation. We require that IMGs be ECFMG Certified at the time of application.

GWU has six psychiatry residency PGY I positions to offer each year. Application timelines can be found at the ERAS website given to you above. Also, due to the small size of our department, we do not have the faculty to accommodate an externship/observership position.

Currently, there are no foreign medical graduates in our program. However, one has recently graduated. Also, we do offer the opportunity for our residents to pursue a fellowship in Child Psychiatry. We do not offer positions outside the match.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best wishes,
Jill J.

Frequently Asked Questions “ IMG Applicants

1. Do you accept international medical graduates?

Yes. We feel that a balance of American and international graduates has enriched the residency. We have been pleased and impressed with the performance of our IMG™s both during and after residency.

2. Are there special requirements for international applicants?

While there are no strict screening criteria, there are several considerations that guide us as we sort through the large pool of applicants. First, we look for a proven interest in and commitment to the field of psychiatry. In many cases this is reflected in residency training or practice in psychiatry in the applicant™s country of origin.

3. Do we have criteria for minimum USMLE scores?

While we do not have strict criteria, we are clearly looking for candidates who have passed their USMLE with scores above the minimum passing grade.

4. What other factors are considered?

We look for the same qualities that we like to see in any applicant: a demonstrated interest in people, research and advanced degrees, etc.

5. Do you sponsor H-1 visas?

It is our custom to sponsor J-1 visas only.

6. Do you accept candidates in the œpre-Match (outside the NRMP)?

No.

7. Do you offer observerships or externships?

No.

8. Do I need ECFMG certification to apply to your program?

Yes. ECFMG certification is a prer

Below, we address several frequently asked questions from IMG applicants. As you can imagine we are unable to answer each inquiry personally, as we receive so many applications every year.

1. Johns Hopkins accepts applications from IMG applicants. You must have a valid medical school diploma, the required letters of recommendation, a valid ECFMG certificate, and a completed application to be considered.

2. There is no specific cut off score for qualifying examinations. This is a very competitive program, and high USMLE scores, special achievements such as advanced degrees and publications, work in the field of psychiatry or neuroscience, and other special recognition are important factors in our decision to offer an interview. Letters from faculty known to our department are extremely helpful in this regard. We interview only applicants who are likely to be ranked for a position. Only applicants who are selected for an interview will be contacted.

3. We are unable to provide externship experiences for IMG applicants and only rarely are we able to approve such applicants as observers. Observers are approved by our office only if a faculty sponsor within our department applies to have an observer. We cannot supply a list of faculty for such experiences.

4. We take 8 PGY-1 residents and 5 PGY-2 residents into our program each year. PGY-2 applicants must have completed an ACGME-approved internship. In general, IMG applicants who have performed very well in an ACGME-approved PGY-1 year in the United States have the best chance of entry into our program.

5. Your ability to write and speak English proficiently should be noted in your letters of recommendation and demonstrated in your written application.

6. Johns Hopkins recommends sponsorship of J-1 visas by the ECFMG for IMG applicants who are accepted into our residency.

We wish you the best of luck and look forward to your application.

area of psychiatry.

In order to apply to our training program, you must first contact the
ECFMG to obtain a certificate and then you would need to apply to our
program via the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). I™ve
also included a link below to the Psychiatry Residency homepage so that
you can learn more about our training program.

Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center Program
Detroit, Michigan 400-25-21-283
No visas
Dear Potential Applicant,

Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center's Psychiatry residency requires that all applications be received via ERAS; our deadline for receipt of applications is December 10, 2008. We do not offer pre-Match positions, nor do we sponsor new H visas. We offer interviews only to those applicants whose USMLE 1 & 2 scores average 80 (Multiple attemptors usually are screened out.), and who have been in medical school, residency, or active practice as a physician within the past 5 years. We are seeking applicants who would work well in a university-based, decentralized residency; who would enjoy living in a northern industrial city without mas transit; who are able to appreciate the wide variety of peoples who live in the Detroit area; and who would be sufficiently flexible to find a comfortable niche within our current group of residents. We prefer US health care experience, particularly in Psychiatry. Additional information is available at www.med.wayne.edu/psychiatry under Education and Training Programs, adult/general psychiatry residency.

We hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.

Thank you for your inquiry; I regret that due to the volume of emails that I receive from prospective applicants that I am unable to personally respond to each question that is posed to me.
Please note that the Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center Psychiatry Program filled all of its positions in the 2008 Match, and we have no advanced standing openings. Our program is accredited for the maximum cycle time by the ACGME and received no citations during its 2006 site visit.
We anticipate offering 8 PG-1 positions in the 2009 Match; we do not make pre-Match offers nor do we sponsor new H-1 B visas. More specific information for 2009 applicants and interview criteria will be updated by July 1, 2008 and then will be posted at www.med.wayne.edu/psychiatry under Education and Training Programs, Adult/General Psychiatry Residency.
We no longer are able to offer observerships due to privacy and liability issues.
I trust that this information will be of assistance to you.

Best regards,
Beth Ann Brooks, M.D.
