as a routine test to find the ETIOLOGY for failure to thrive as well as COMPLICATION of immunodeficiency leading to anergy to skin tests..

1.tuberculosis as a cause of failure to thrive
2. failure to thrive due to malnutrition/ other causes may mount poor immune response

1. latent tb? for active tb we do x ray.
2. how PPD can help to know?

for any TB (no matter active or latent), we do PPD first. Dont jump to CXR without PPD test.

u do PPD ONLY for latent... not for active TB. for active TB = cxr
