waiver job in cardiology - anotherstep
#1
Hi,

Saw that there are really NO Univ. programs who accept H1b visas...

My dream/plan is to do IM and then card. I guess it is much easier to get a fellowship in card if I do IM at a univ. program, right?

If I do residency and fellowship on a J1, how easy would it be for me to get a waiver job? Saw that waiver jobs are in primary care and cardiol. is hardly primary care....

If possible to get a waiver job, how easy is it for a cardiologist? Are you sure of getting one somewhere or do lots of people have to return home?

I´d really appreciate some good answers!

Even if you found one (very difficult), a waiver for a subspecialist will be most probably 5 years. So it might be a better idea to do a 3 years waiver after residency then start the cardiology fellowship on H1.

there are tons of J1 waiver jobs in cardiology, donot worry, do your residency in a university hospital it helps.

however since ur IMG unless you build up tremendous contacts and outstanding Cv it is difficult to obtain a fellowship positon in cardiology.

however it is not impossible, good luck.

hi,
H1 b is always bettter than J1.
You can always do your fellowship on green card.
Take H1 visa first then get green card on your job in 1 year, then you can join cardio/what ever.
With J1 you have do waiver 3 yrs/5 yrs [not sure yet.]and with sub speciality its always difficult to get waiver job and also paid less when compared to non waiver job.you may get paid as a primary care physician.
so my advise dude is H1 always better than J1
