Desperate to do surgery - anushkot
#1
Thank you soo much for all your wonderful work... I have a problem.. I got matched to an internal medicine prelim in new york.. I will be coming on a J1 visa and it says I can change to a different speciality only once that too within 3 years..
Not very sure what to do since my heart is really really set on surgery but not sure how an internal med prelim will look on my cv when I apply for surgery next year...
also I had only 2 interviews for surgery after applying to 80 programs.. very disappointed and depressed.. i thought with good score I stood a chance of getting atleast a prelim in surgery.. Any advice would be greatly appreciated..
my credentials were-- 99/99/ pass 1 st attempt.. no USCE and no research..
graduated jan 2005

Come do your prelim year and take a surg rotation as your elective month, meet with Surgeons while in prel residency particularly the Surg PD, come earlier to the US if you can to start a research project with a surgeon. You can do it.

IMG-coach can put together a program for success in Surg Match.
