tell the pt about a safe house (tell him that u will get the list of nearby places from the internet)
tell pt to meet social worker
tell the pt to speak to some reliable person about the abuse
tell the pt not to be afraid about getting harmed by the abuser incase he/she found that the pt has told somebody about him
also tell him that whatever the pt speaks will remain confidential

Tell the abused person to gradually compile a a bag of belongings for when they decide to leave the abusive environment. Put in the bag important phone numbers, insurance numbers, identification, copies of important papers, any important keys, copies of important documents for their children. Phone numbers for local social agencies, homeless shelters, and local police. Have them take the children with them or make arrangements for their care until they can meet up with them at a later time.
