compensatory metab acidosis - how do u know - got2study2pass

hi how do u konw if it is compensatory or not. i remember goljan saying somthing about looking at the pco2 levels if they are above 30 it is compensated, but can someone please remind me of what the concept on this is.

compensation will be by hypervintilation to decrease Pco2...and compensation could be partial(incomplete)..or complete....if it is partial ,the pco2 will be less than 40...and the PH less than 7.4....complete means the PH is normal....

does pH go to normal or close to normal.
goljan says it will never reach normal levels.

according to kaplan ,,if it is complete compensation ,,,PH should go to normal...if it is partial or incomplete ,,it would be close to normal....
