USMLE verification - smita_mehta
#1
I have passed my USMLE step-1 and step-2 in 1993. My ECFMG certificate is valid indefinitely. Do I have to reappear for Step-1 and 2 again or I need to pass step-3 only. I will appreciate if someone can help me.

Thanks

best to call ecfmg directly
althu if in your step 3 application u write the state which doesnt have minimum paasssing year for alll steps to be completed like delaware (it says time to complete all steps unlimited) no need to retake i guess

no need to retake the exams.

They changed all those rules in 1995 or some thing back then.

Just go on ecfmg website and they have it there.

After you confirm, go for step 3 and good luck.

If a doctor has permanently valid ECFMG certificate, then he/she can definitely work in some states, though not all, after passing Step3. The list of states that allow that is on the FSMB site. However, I hear, that if you have a licence to work in one or two states, a state with a limit on number of years for passing all 3 steps, can tweek their rules a little to accomodate you. Also, you can work in a federal institution like the Veteran's Hospital, in a state with time limitation, as long as you have some other state's valid licence.
