Diabetic retinopathy confusion - usmlephobic
#1
Have a question here that maybe someone can help me clear up.
According to Goljan... damage to the pericytes that line retinal BV occurs via osmotic damage (pg. 518) and that would lead to the formation of microaneurysms. But according to what FA, microaneurysms of the retina are caused by Non enzymatic glycosylation.
So my question is..which is it?
thanks

has to be osmotic damage..... aldose reductase in the pericytes of the retina convert glucose to sorbitol..... they swell..... microaneurysms..... id go with golgan's thing.....
