A histological section of the left ventrical of a deseased 28 y.old white male shows classic contraction band necrosis of the myocardium.Biological spesimens confirm the presense of cocaine and metabolites.
Activity of which of the following enzymes was most likely increased in the patient's myocardiL CELLS SHORTLY PRIOR TO HIS DEATH?
1/Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase
2/phosphofructokinase-1
3/pyruvate dehydrogenase
4/succinate dehydrogenase
5/transketolase

Cocine causes contraction band necrosis by blocking the reuptake of Nepinephrine, resulting in excessive vasoconstriction of coronary vessels, leading to ishemia and infarction of the heart tissue.
Under thise pathological conditions, myocardial cells swithch to anaerobic metabolism and thefore glycolysis becomes the sole sourse of ATP via substrate-level phosphorylation by phosphoglycerate kinase and pyruvate kinase.
Phosohofruvtokinase-1/PFK-1/is the rate-limiting enzyme of glycolysis, and its activity would thefore increased.
