how long treatment of tb in hiv pt...?

even in HIV+, 6 months of treatment is sufficient.

only indications for >6 m Rx are:
TB meningitis(1 yr)
TB in pregnancy(9 m)
TB with osteomyelitis (> 6 m)

6 mo (24wks):
-induction phase w/ 4 drugs for 8 wks (2mo): given daily for the first 2 months or daily for the first 2 weeks followed by 6 weeks of biweekly treatment
-continuation phase w/ 2 drugs for 16wks (4 mo): given either daily or biweekly

this regimen is altered if contraindications to rifamycins exist, introduce strepto instead and have induction for 2 mo and continuation phase to 7 mo.
