jw2009, as long as there is HYPOVOLEMIA, you must use only isotonic fluid either ringer lactate or normal saline. If it is not isotonic fluid, you can lose the kid from hypotension as 1/4ns, 1/3ns will not expand the ECF.

If they are not hypovolemic, your choices below are correct.
neonates to 1 year- N/4 saline
1 to 4 yr- N/3 saline
5- 10 yr- N/2 saline
>10 you can give NS
