Family Medicine vs Transitional year - manneteja
#1
Hi all,
I am interested in doing Internal Medicine. But I have only 3 IM ivs of which I have chance only in 2 programs. And I have 3 FM ivs with pretty good chance and 1 transitional year iv with good chance for matching.
Now I am confused whether to rank FM 1st or Transitional year 1st (after IM)
Please someone help me.
Thank you

exactly the same situation here

i would be more specific, will transitional year help us to secure IM or FM residency next year in terms of hands on clinical experience, because 12 months of USCE is a big plus?

thanks

your obvious choice will be IM first. Transitional year is good but the problem with it is that by the time you apply for next year residency you will have only 3 months of experience to update your resume i.e july-september.

You may get better and more interviews or you may not get even what you have in your hand right now.You never know, the competition is becoming tough. If you are willing to take fm next year then why not take it this time and you are safe. If you are not willing to take FM next year then you can think about transitional year.
All the best.
