Guys be thankful that you guys at least have the option to go back and be in the same position (ie. as a doctor). Imagine about people who have gone through carribean route with more than 200K in debt. Then unable to match and not able to find anything. Whose families are here, but you feel like an utter loser because you cannot find a job to pay that 200K loan, which your parents might have co-signed. You take down the whole family with you.

It's a choice that we all made. You made a choice to apply to US because you cannot get a training in your country or because of more lucrative health care that find in US. I made a choice to go to carribean because I couldn't wait out for a year to see if i would match into US or not?

I think you guys should be helpful that you're not a burden on anybody. YOu don't have to make $1400 monthly payments for student loan with no job. You can still practice as a physician in your homeland.

To every individual, their position always seems worse to them than the others. But please be grateful for what you have.

my story is straight out of the bollywood movie TAARE ZAMEEN PE

I am a 2008 grad, and at the dullest of all my family member who are all doctors.
My family know the inside outs of the USMLE and matching.

my siblings are all elder and are with very high scores and they got it in 3 3 months.
i took 18 months for step1....8 months for ck and 6 months or step 3.
i got only 3 interviews and wont match this year for sure.

More than me treating myself as a failure , its my family who treats me like one.
this feeling sucks more as i am in india.

when you are successful, biggest of crime are forgiven but vice versa is also true and thats my story.

relatives always have a little bit of sadism in them and my relatives are are making the most of this oppertunity. "what are you doing?","do something", " try india yaar" , "omg, you doctors have to study all life" and what not.

its a strange feeling of cry anger high low irritation

preparing for next year while doing a job and planning to join AIPG coaching in the meanwhile (family pressure)

it is going to be a hard one year

Target like I mentioned in my post. Be grateful for what you have.

Think on the positive note: You have a job. You're working as a DOCTOR and I am sure you're getting 10x more respect in India then you will ever get in US.

Yes, the respect is not from people that you care about. You would rather prefer the respect to come from your relatives than anyone. But you're keeping the dignity.

I can also suggest you that DO NOT WORRY about what other people are saying about you. I can tell you for sure that you would continue to hear from them all your life. If you match in FM and not IM, then they would say oh, WHY couldn't you get in IM? What are you going to do in your life now? Just going to be a regular doctor. Not a specialist. Whats the point of going to US, if you just want to become a regular doctor. You were a regular doctor here in India as well.

If you get into IM and not fellowship...then the same argument continues.

I know exactly what you're saying and what you're talking about. Just be happy that you don't have a loan/no liability/or responsibility. Plus you have a job and you're being a productive member of the community.

Imagine, if you worked all that hard and can't get any job. I am not sure if you're aware of the situation in US, but you cannot do anything with a MD degree without residency. You can't get any job. Thats why they make you do undergraduate degrees here...so you have something to fall back upon (well thats not the real reason), but at least you can fall back on something. However, if you just do pre-med in undergrad, then you're SCREWED because again you can't do anything.

The way economy is going....All research jobs are done with. Majority of universities don't have enough fund to hire a new fellow and give them $10/hr.

So again, pls be thankful for what you have and look at things from positive side.

target99 the nature has given you a very precious human life and it has bestowed you with lot of opportunities which many people would not have. You should be grateful and thankful to the creator for what you are having. Life is a struggle buddy, you have just stumbled in your tenacious journey and this does not mean that you would not reach your destiny.
Have belief in your own self and never let down your self respect, you would find the inner peace and contentment.
