A 35 y/o male involved in moter cycle accident and he was not wearing helmet. On arrival to the emergency room he is tachypenic but concious and able to speak with difficulty. He has head injury and open fracture of the femur too. V/S temp 37'C ,PR 110,BP 100/60 mm Hg RR 35/min and noisy. What would be the best way to manage his airway and breathing?
A- surgical cricothyroidotomy
B-Needle cricothyroidotomy
C-orotracheal intubation
D-Nasotracheal intubation
E-Chin lift with facemask

well he needs to be intubated since his breathing is "noisy" and is having
difficulty breathing.
considering that he is able to speak, i think an Orotracheal Intubation © would be fine.

E is the answer. Chin lift with face mask....to clear airway of any obstruction and to cut down RR. This is UW explanation. My answer was orotracheal intubation.
Pyria you got the answer but explanation is not right A/T UW.

I was also thinking of E. But I thought that femur fracture can lead to PE. So a face mask with 100% oxygen is requried. Does this make any sense?
