Is it ok to call the programs and tell them that I had applied to their program and very much interested in their program, request them to go trough our profile. ( no to ask for the application status I know we should not ask that)

yes that is ok carry on and do that , post your experience in here

they sometimes frown upon that. Some coordinators really hate it and will trash your file supposedly if you call them. So best advice is wait a week and than do it if they still haven't done so.
