2nd time,
first time I took it I got a 73% figured if I work on my CCS (which I screwed 5 cases of) I'd be all set and took it a couple of weeks later after massive concentration on CCS, this time I did worse, I don't know how that is possible when I had all ccs cases down and received the same performance as the first time even though I diagnosed and properly treated 8 our of 9 cases, plus was on propnaolol so I wouldn't be having the same panic attacks I had the first go.. I have screwed my application beyond recognition, I have received some of the worse rejections letters and if you can imagine the emotional and financial strain.. God how does one go on living after this? I have attempts now on every step with the exception of CS and one coordinator plain flat told me and I quote:
''If you want complete honesty, here it is. The likelihood of you getting an interview invitation anywhere, is slim to nil. You don't come across strong on paper.''
I am so despondent

Just got out of day #2, and I'm just thinking I have failed. I was not able to figure out two ccs cases and I don't even know if I got the other 7 right. In almost every question I thought I was guessing. Don't want to get through this again.

does anyone have a fool proof strategy please?
I scored 410 on the NBME
58 on usmleworld
60 Kaplan
72 NMS (though Iphone)
I have no idea what other Q bank to use or even what went wrong, I geneuinely don't understand why the grade is this bad and worse than the previous!

god, would it hurt for these people at the hospitals to have at least some compassion? Just a small dose of it? Do they know how hard these tests are? Or do they just assume that every doctor is so smart that they can pass all these tests like robots - in one go, with high scores, plus having more than the usual number of extracurriculars? Makes me so angry that these people have to keep on jacking up expectations, seemingly every month!
I feel bad for you, ari, but look at my situation: I passed step 1 on my fifth attempt, CS on my second attempt, and I haven't even passed my CK (up to my seventh attempt on CK); haven't attempted Step 3 yet; I don't think I would even get any return messages from those secretaries or coordinators, leave aside meeting a program director.
I don't know what to say, except to try again, if possible; I don't even know how I'm going to muster up the energy to attempt CK for an eighth time (I hope that's not a record for most attempts, on any USMLE)...
but in the mean time, god bless you, and hopefully we'll all be able to see the light after stumbling around in all this darkness

It was a horrible experience for me, and I am prune to panic attacks now, just this surge of chemicals in my body that has been so painful to control in times of stress.. Most people leave feeling that they have done poorly, I was counting on my scores before I took the test, I did Kaplan and Archer.. I really just don't get what went wrong, which is awful seeing that I don't know how to remedy this..

This test is by far more difficult than previous steps. I still need more clinical experience.

lifer,
I wish I can show you the exchange between me and this lady, which came in the heal of my failure which she automatically pointed out in her subsequent letter:
Yes, and presently I am closer to being in a residency program than you are. Says a lot about you, who didn't finish undergrad nor med school on time, who spent thousands of dollars taking exams that still weren't passed on first attempt, and when they were, the scores were minimal, at best and then halfway decent. Good luck on the next go round of Step 3.
I cried so much today, I really don't know how to pick myself up =(

jecolon I did need extra time to finish some blocks, the questions weren't daunting per se but I felt that there was always more than one correct answer...
You need to just keep swimming, I mean you have come so far.. as crappy as I feel today I feel the need to re-strategize
