Totally agree with surrender too!
I have no research experience (would love to and hope to have that opportunity soon). However, I did an observership at a good University Hospital and got US LORs...I think that added weight to my application and gave me my interviews at some really great community programs and even a good number of university programs. So if you have the time, research will always help no doubt but looks like USCE is of strong value in their assesment.
