H1b vs. J1 Visa - GSurg/IM? - blitz
#1
Hey guys

IMG from the UK (Non U.S citizen, as I am British/Canadian).

I'm interested in doing either Internal Meds or GSurg on J1 visa or H1B.

I'm debating if I should do an intern year here in UK so I can then apply for H1b, or if I should just apply next year for J1 visa.

I know H1b is much better than J1, but I also know that J1 is much easier to get.

Do I realistically have a shot for categorical IM or GSurg on H1b? or will I be banking on pre-liminary?

What about getting H1b in a big city like Philly or NYC? Realistic? or am I wishing for too much.

Any input appreciated, thanks.

doing Step 1 and 2 CK/CS next year, in time for when I apply for 2012 match.

obv 99/99 is the goal...but im thinking realistically i'll hit 95/95...?

I've done 1 summer of research in Toronto (Cancer research at Princess Margaret)

1 week OBV at Johns Hopkins in Ortho/Neurosurg
2 months last summer at UPenn/Jefferson in Philly in Thoracic Surg and Rad Onc

Next year I'll have 4 months of 4 ELECTIVE at UMass and Mt. Sinai NYC in GSurg, Transplant, Gastro and Hem-Onc

So I have a fair amount of USCE I think....but i know its cutthroat.
